  3. armies of technologically specialized slaves working the land 
  4. blighted the social existence of the independent yeomen and 
  5. small farmers, and led to the strange world of the Roman 
  6. towns and cities crowded with rootless parasites.

  8.      To a much greater degree than Roman slavery, the 
  9. specialism of mechanized industry and market organization has 
  10. faced Western man with the challenge of manufacture by 
  11. monofracture, or the tackling of all things and operations one-
  12. bit-at-a-time. This is the challenge that has permeated all 
  13. aspects of our lives and enabled us to expand so triumphantly 
  14. in all directions and in all spheres.
